PIL against 'Satyameva Jayate' dismissed by High Court

Aamir Khan's show 'Satyameva Jayate' became popular as soon as it entered the television world. While the earlier season received appreciations, now an activist has sent a legal notice to the actor and the director of the show for using the emblem of the country as the show's title.

On Tuesday June 21, 2016, Bombay High Court dismissed a PIL which had taken objection on using the emblem of the country as the show’s title. A division bench of Justice A S Oka and Justice A A Sayyed said it did not find any violation on the part of show producers and the actor who were respondents to the petition."They have not used the main Emblem and there is no use of pictorial representation of Ashok Chakra," said the court.

The notice was sent to Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao and the director of the show Satyajit Bhatkal. The name 'Satyamev Jayate' is a part of the national emblem, says Manoranjan Roy, the activist. Manoj Singh on Roy's behalf said, "Otherwise our client has given us peremptory instructions to initiate legal proceedings against you."

The title 'Satyamev Jayate' is a part of the State Emblem which cannot be used without permission as per State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Act 2009, it says. "it cannot be used to get monetary benefit or for the purpose of advertisement", the notice continues.
