November 22. 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The Miss California 2010 beauty pageant is underway and women from all over the United States have assembled in the Rancho Mirage resort to compete in the event. According to reports, 150 American ladies are taking part in the Miss California pageant this year. While the televised rounds of the event will showcase only 15 among the 150 ladies, it is to be seen who wins the crown and replaces Miss California 2009 Tami Farrell.
The Miss California title was mired in controversy in the recent past when former winner Carrie Prejean got embroiled in a public spat over discussions regarding same sex marriage in the United States. According to the organizers of the beauty pageant, Carrie Prejean was involved in a breach of contract with them. It was alleged that she went on air proclaiming the fact that she was against the concept of gay or lesbian couples getting married, something that not only irked the same sex communities in the country, but also put the title of Miss California which she had won at stake. In fact, it was after the controversy over her comments that the organizers considered giving away the title to a more deserving candidate and in came Tami Farrell.
Though nothing has been confirmed on an official basis, Miss California may see two girls emerging winners this year. However, the media is not sure about the incidents which led to such a decision being taken. Keeping in mind the censor police who had lodged a complaint about ladies strutting the ramp in provocative swimwears, Miss California 2010 has also decided to do away with the swimsuit uniform round in this years competitions.
