January 15, 2011 (Sampurn Wire): The winners for the 16th Annual Critics Choice Awards have been announced with a star studded event taking place at Hollywood Palladium on Friday night, 14th January. Here are the ones who won and the ones who missed out:
In the Best Movie category, films like The Kings Speech and Black Swan lost out to The Social Network. Jeff Bridges may have earned kudos for his role in True Grit but it was Colin Firth who lifted the Best Actor Trophy for his sublime performance in The Kings Speech. In the Best Actress category, Natalie Portman (Black Swan) nudged past the likes of Nicole Kidman and Michelle Williams to earn the trophy.
The Best Supporting Actor award was picked by Christian Bale for The Fighter while his co-star Melissa Leo scampered away with Best Supporting Actress trophy. True Grits Hailee Steinfeld won the award for Best Young Actor/Actress. Best Acting Ensemble award was conquered by The Fighter while The Social Networks David Fincher won the Best Director trophy.
The Kings Speech (David Seidler) got the nod in the Best Original Screenplay category while The Social Network (Aaron Sorkin) won the Best Adapted Screenplay. Inception picked up awards in the Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects and Best Art Direction.
Alice in Wonderland was awarded for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup. Toy Story 3 defeated Tangled to bag the Best Animated Feature while Inception grabbed the Best Action Movie award.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo won the Best Foreign Language Film award while Waiting for Superman was rewarded for Best Documentary Feature. If I Rise from 127 Hours was the Best Song and The Social Network (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross) took home the trophy for Best Score.
