A political outfit called Hindu Makkal Katchi, which earlier came down heavily on several film personalities on various occasions, has targeted actor Karthi this time.
The actor, at an awards show in Hyderabad, had said that he liked the Telugu audiences more as they turn out for his movies in huge numbers. Karthi also stated that he found the Telegu audiences very generous in their appreciation for his acting skills and movies.
The political outfit has raised objections to Karthi’s views and is demanding an apology.
'Being born in Tamil Nadu and becoming popular through Tamil films, how can an actor talk so casually about Telugu audiences? Why these double standards and degrading Tamils in other states?' asks Kannan, state organising secretary for Hindu Makkal Katchi.
Reacting to this, Karthi says, 'I was invited to the awards function as a guest, and the comment was purely to express my gratitude and thanks to the Telugu audiences for appreciating and supporting my work there. Also, I spoke in Telugu, which I’m not fluent in, and it resulted in my comment becoming open to interpretation. It doesn’t mean that I don’t love my audiences and fans here any less.'
