Alex Turner eager for new talent

25th April 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Alex Turner wants a new band to turn the charts upside down.

The singer is one fourth of British indie band Arctic Monkeys, comprising of Matt Helders, Jamie Cook, and Nick OMalley. The bands debut album Whatever People Say I Am, Thats What Im Not, released in early 2006, became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history.

Alex says the Arctic Monkeys will never be able to re-capture the naivety they experienced when they first hit the music scene but hopes that a new band will be able to conjure up a grassroots indie-rock revolution, and repeat their early success.

"Because well never get that initial naivety back," he told NME magazine. "You can't, like, fake that thing, like what's on the first record. It's just a time and a place but yeah, I'd love for a band to come through and turn the charts upside down for a couple of weeks."

Alex says that the next big thing is likely to be a young guitar band - just like his band was when they emerged. The talented musician says that the charts is lacking any real music, as its all digitised, and he hopes to see the return of guitars in the near future.

"Everyone thinks that the next big thing has got to sound really modern and new, but to get something that sounds fresh, it can just be three kids with guitars and not a lot else," he said. "There's enough username-and-password music already, know what I mean? I hope it does happen again, though."

Arctic Monkeys fourth album Suck It and See will be released in June. (C) Cover Media
