(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Alison Mosshart says taking time out from The Kills was an accident.
The American singer-songwriter is one half of The Kills alongside British guitarist Jamie Hince. The 32-year-old had a break from the alternative rock band in early 2009 to join supergroup The Dead Weather, which was formed by Jack White.
The frontwoman has admitted joining The Dead Weather happened by chance, and it took more time away from The Kills work with Jamie than she initially thought.
The difficult thing was that I didnt know I was doing a record, then we did one, then I didnt think I was gonna have time to tour, and we toured. And then from the sound checks we suddenly had another record, and its like, F**k! What now? Do we put it out or do I go back? she told NME. It was just loads of accidents and trying to come up with a strategy about how to get things out there without stepping on peoples toes. There was never a game plan.
Despite sometimes regretting taking time away from The Kills, Alison thinks the experience was positive overall. She credits her three years away from the group as what made their upcoming album Blood Pressures, which is due for release next month, so satisfying to make.
I wouldve liked not to have had three years off from The Kills but in the end there isnt enough time in the day, and me and Jamie are really pleased with Blood Pressures. Its just whatever it takes to get there, you know? she added.
Jamie, 40, insists there were no hard feelings between him and his bandmate, but admits Alisons stint with The Dead Weather halted the process of making a new Kills album, which he probably would have liked to have completed sooner.
There was never, ever tension between us, he insisted. Obviously The Dead Weather stuff affects what Im doing, and I would have been happier making a Kills album earlier than this, but all those problems are eclipsed by how much it did for Alison. (C) Cover Media
