Amitabh Bachchan has joined the cast of 'The Great Gatsby', which began filming this week in Australia. A veteran of Indian cinema and one of the most recognised faces on the planet, Amitabh will play the role of Meyer Wolfsheim. Wolfsheim had helped Gatsby make money in the bond business when he first came to New York after he returned from the war.
The $125 million 3-D adaptation of the cult F. Scott Fitzgerald novel is directed by Australia's Baz Luhrmann and stars Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role. Other previously announced cast include Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton and Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher and Jason Clarke. The film also features newcomer Elizabeth Debicki as Jordan Baker.
The film will be distributed in 3D and 2D by Warner Bros. Pictures and in certain territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.
'The Great Gatsby' is a story of a would-be writer who leaves the mid-west for the city to chase his own American dream. As he bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.
Great going, Big B!
