Antonia Campbell-Hughes: Fashion is tough

14th May 2011

(Cover) - EN Star Style - Antonia Campbell-Hughes says fashion is more cut-throat than the acting world.

The Northern-Irish actress has most recently filmed Albert Nobbs opposite Glenn Close and stars in drama Lotus Eaters.

The 28-year-old started out in fashion, but soon learnt the glamorous world wasnt all she had hoped for.

Ive always done both, she told Cover Media when asked why she chose the acting route over her fashion career. I had an agent from the age of 16 but I didnt really like the acting world. I went to art school and I saw fashion as an art form. I thought I was creating wearable, conceptual art. I was very young, I was 17, and I quickly learnt that it was a cut throat business. You spend more time running a business than you do creating wearable art.

The pretty star says that it was apparent to her that she needed to channel her creative energy more effectively. Antonia is grateful she kept up her acting career alongside running a fashion business as she was able to throw herself into it once she decided the designing world was not for her.

I was acting at the time and it became very difficult to do both and so I decided to throw in the towel and do something that I felt I could be purely creative in, she added. (C) Cover Media
