Megastar Amitabh Bachchan is all set to inaugurate the 24th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival on the 10th of November. A total of 171 feature films, 150 shorts and documentaries from 70 countries would be on show at 16 auditoria in the city and Howrah with 1967 Bengali classic 'Antony Firingee' being the inaugural movie of the eight-day festival.
Sanjay Dutt, Jaya Bachchan, Waheeda Rehman, Nandita Das would also be present at the opening ceremony, said state youth and sports minister and KIFF chief advisor Aroop Biswas.
Along with Big B acclaimed Iranian director Majid Majidi and Australian directors Simon Baker, Jill Bilcock and Philip Noyce would grace the opening ceremony, to be presided over by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.
It is pretty clear that the Jury bench relies on Australian film-makers to judge. More importantly, the best film would be given an award of Rs 51 lakh, and the best director Rs 21 lakh, with both receiving a golden trophy christened "Royal Bengal Tiger" Majid Majidi's four Iranian films will also be screened.
Big B also has 'Thugs of Hindostan' awaited for a release along with Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The Film Fest is going to be grand with big names like Shah Rukh Khan making it as well.
