Bob Hoskins has announced he is to retire from his "wonderful career."

The 69-year-old has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and is withdrawing from acting to focus on his health and to spend time with his family.

Bob has appeared in movies like Who Framed Roger Rabbit in his four-decade turn in the entertainment industry.

"He wishes to thank all the great and brilliant people he has worked with over the years," his agent said in a statement. "And all of his fans who have supported him during a wonderful career."

"Bob is now looking forward to his retirement with his family, and would greatly appreciate that his privacy be respected at this time."

The British actor started acting in the late 60s but only started to make a name for himself a decade later.

His portrayal of George in Mona Lisa in 1986 saw him receive a plethora of awards including a Golden Globe for best actor and Bafta and Oscar nominations.

Bob was most recently seen as one of the dwarves in Snow White and the Huntsman which starred Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron.
