Bombay High Court in favour of 'Udta Punjab'

10th June 2016

'Udta Punjab' controversy is getting murkier with each passing day. After the Censor Board of Film Certification(CBFC) suggested around 89 cuts in the film and to drop the word Punjab from the title, the matter went to Bombay High Court.

Bombay High Court on Thursday, June 9, 2016 came with a rather surprising decision which was in the favour of Anurag Kashyap and his film. The court said that the movie 'Udta Punjab' "wants to save people" and "has not been made with a view to malign the state or its people".

The court also refused to accept that the suggested cuts which were eventually in the first part of the movie and should be removed as it affects the sovereignty of the country.

The court will also make sure that the drugs are condemned. Justice S C Dharmadhikari said, "It is our prerogative that the movie never praises drugs. It is still going to say that drugs are bad. The movie wants to save people from this and has not been made with a view to malign the state or its people."
