Britney Spears to star in Glee

11th August 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Britney Spears will appear in Glee, in an episode which will be “reverential and kind” to the star.

There have been constant rumours the American high school musical programme will pay tribute to the pop star in recent months, and that Britney might feature in the episode. Show creator Ryan Murphy has now confirmed the episode has been planned, and that Britney will join the cast for several scenes.

“Britney, I think 100%, is going to be on the episode. She is going to join us for a couple of scenes,” Murphy told radio host Ryan Seacrest. “It will be reverential and so kind. We are handling Britney with kid gloves. She is pop culture, and I want to do something that says, ‘Thank you for what you’ve done and we’re encouraging you to continue to be doing as fantastic as you are.’”

Britney suffered a public meltdown in 2008, during which she shaved her head and was hospitalised. There had been rumours the episode would allude to the situation, but Murphy has said they are untrue.

Instead, people in the school musical club will spend time fantasising about how they would perform Britney tracks if given the chance.

“Remember when you were in school and the dentist came in and had you chew the blue stuff and if the blue stuff was on your teeth it meant you were a bad brusher? OK, well John Stamos is on the show now and he’s the dentist, and he comes in for National Cavity Week and there’s four of the kids who have terrible dental hygiene, and those kids have to go get their teeth cleaned, some of them under anaesthesia and that’s when the fun Britney stuff happens because the kids are really wanting to do a Britney episode and the teacher says no, so they have fantasies of how they can be like her,” Murphy explained.

He added claims a Michael Jackson episode are in the pipeline are unfounded, as the show has been unable to get the rights to the late superstar’s music. Murphy is keen to base future editions of the programme around Prince and The Beatles though.

The first season saw singers in the high school glee club perform songs by stars including Madonna and Lady Gaga. (C) Cover Media
