Carmit Bachar calls for women to ignore body criticism

29th January 2011

(Cover) - EN Star Style - Carmit Bachar believes there is too much emphasis put on looks in the music industry.

The 36-year-old managed to secure her legacy as part of R&B girl band the Pussycat Dolls alongside fellow members Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts and Kimberly Wyatt. But despite being part of one of the sexiest bands of the century, Carmit confirms she was often rejected by the fickle music industry for not being pretty enough.

Absolutely. I cant tell you how much rejection I got as a young girl agents told me not to get my hopes up because I wouldnt get far, but I persisted and proved everybody wrong, she told OK! magazine.

Despite the rejection, Carmit managed to secure a place in the popular band. She believes the irony lies in the fact that she ended up being lauded for her sexuality after being told she wouldnt make the grade in an image-obsessed industry. She urges potential stars of the future to take a note of her perseverance.

The victory for me was that I ended up in a group pretty much based around image and sex appeal. Everybody growing up has something that makes them feel different and maybe not pretty or likeable, but I invite them to embrace those differences as they make you unique and special, she added.
