Check Out Names Of Five Directors Nominated For DGA Awards 2011

11th January 2011

January 11, 2011 (Sampurn Wire): Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards, has announced the names of the nominations of five best directors of this year. The lucky five directors are Darren Aronofsky, Christopher Nolan, Tom Hooper, David Fincher and David O. Russell.

Usually the director who wins the DGA award, also takes away the Academy Award and that is reflected in the history. The Oscar nomination cannot be expected in these weeks but these five lucky men can keep their fingers crossed. Since 1948, when the guild started awarding the feature-film directors, only six winners missed the Academy Award and others took away both at the same year. Last time, it happened in 2002 when Roman Polanski won the Academy award for The Pianist beating the DGA award winner Rob Marshall.

The nomination for DGA awards 2011 has been announced on Monday (January 10) and the names came as expected. For Nolan, it has been his third nomination till today after being nominated for Memento and The Dark Knight earlier.

Fincher, who has been nominated for The Social Network this time, had got nominations for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in 2008.

The first timers in DGA nominations include Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky, The Kings Speech director Tom Hooper and David O. Russell for The Fighter.

On January 29, the 63rd DGA awards will take place at Los Angeles Grand Ballroom at Hollywood and Highland.
