(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Chris Brown enjoys being the musician other artists love to hate.
The American singer was sentenced to five years' probation and six months' community labour after admitting punching, biting and choking his then-girlfriend Rihanna in his car in 2009. The incident saw him fall from public popularity, with many stores refusing to stock his albums and radio stations deciding not to play his songs.
The star is now back with a new album called F.A.M.E. which he thinks will be a roaring success. He took time away from the spotlight to deal with his personal issues, and thinks people will now give him a second chance as its clear he has worked hard. The records first single Yeah 3x has already topped the charts in New Zealand and done well in Australia and America, and Chris is thrilled as it shows people he isnt listening to any negativity.
The first initial [thing that was exciting about the industry] was hearing my record on the radio. Thats the first part. The second one is probably being able to go out there and inspire. You get sold out shows and you get the chance to be on stage and become another person, and not be the person that you are that sits down and watches cartoons. You get to be your own superhero, in a sense, on stage, he explained. And the third part about it is probably having my records number one and knowing there are so many other artists gunning for me who didnt give me a chance or lend their hand to help me when I was down, and Im kicking their ass on the charts. So they really kind of hate that and I love being that guy.
F.A.M.E. includes many different genres of music, which Chris is proud of. The 21-year-old doesnt want to be pigeon-holed as an R&B star or a hip-hop artist, and thinks people worry too much about the kind of music they are making.
Music shouldnt have a genre its just entertainment, whatever you love at that moment, whatever brings that emotion out, thats entertainment, he told the Kyle & Jackie O Show. Even if two people hear my records in life Im still going to continue because this is what gets me through any situation Im dealing with, whether its happy or sad. I think music is my outlet.
