(Cover) - EN Movies - Chris O'Dowd has received marriage proposals from fans of new comedy Bridesmaids.
The British funnyman has been hailed for his role as an affable policeman who tries to woo the film's main star, Kristen Wiig. And his scene stealing performance has led to several declarations of undying devotion from women on his Twitter page.
"Yeah, there's been some love, and some fun, and I don't take any of it personally, even or maybe especially the positive stuff," he told British newspaper The Telegraph. "I know people are talking about the character, even if they're saying my name. I like to think that when people meet me in real life, they go off me immediately."
The comedy, which focuses on Kristen's character Annie coping with her role as maid-of-honour, has become a box office smash hit thanks to its raunchy antics. Chris believes the film's success should end suggestions that male audiences won't watch a comedy with an all female lead cast.
"Surely we're past all this," he says. "[British comedy shows] French and Saunders and Smack The Pony and Miranda Hart and a bunch of other people have killed this notion in the UK.
"I don't think the public here buy this idea that women and men speak different comedic languages. I think Bridesmaids is a hoot, and I'm an alpha-male. So it's clearly all ridiculous." (C) Cover Media
