(Cover) - EN Movies - The Coen Brothers are working on a "music-based film" that will be mainly live.

Filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen were previously believed to have no interest in working on musical projects. However, they surprised the audience at the opening celebration of the Film Society of Lincoln Center's new Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center by revealing they are working on a movie that integrates a lot of live tunes in its storyline.

Considered two of America's most celebrated filmmakers, the brothers directed this year's hit movie True Grit together, as well as a number of critically acclaimed picturess including The Big Lebowski and Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?

"We're working on a movie now that has music in it but it's pretty much all performed live, single instrument so it's hard to tell," Joel told the audience at the Lincoln Centre when asked about the new project.

"Yeah, it will be mostly live I think," Ethan added.

Joel also revealed how they tailor the script writing process depending on what kind of movie they are working on. The way they approach each character's development differs in adaptations and original storylines.

"In adaptations that we've done, even if we have ended up using the same actors, they have, generally speaking, been written because the characters are presented to you in an adaptation. So they're written without regard to who's necessarily going to play them, from our point of view," Joel said. "But in stories that we're coming up with ourselves it's frequently the case that we write for specific people although I have to say, the [musical] thing we're doing now, we're not writing specifically for any of the parts which is unusual for us."
