18th August 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Coldplay have signed one of the biggest deals in music industry history.

The band, consisting of frontman Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion, have agreed a publishing deal with Universal Music. The terms of the agreement are not known, but it is believed to cover all the band’s future songwriting.

The financial side of the contract has also been kept secret, but industry sources say it is one of the richest agreements ever secured by an act.

Coldplay signed their first deal with BMG Music Publishing in 1999, shortly before releasing their first album Parachutes. They are currently putting the finishing touches on their fifth record.

"They've sold more than 50 million albums worldwide and their huge success is entirely deserved. We're obviously very proud,” Universal president Paul Connolly said in a statement.

Chris, Jonny, Guy and Will are currently working with a personal trainer to ensure they are fit to tour next year. (C) Cover Media
