'Dabangg' rocks 12th IIFA Awards

27th June 2011

The 12th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) glittering awards recently concluded in Toronto. The event had almost every star of Bollywood in attendance but one star's absence stood out. IIFA did miss Salman Khan but he rocked the IIFA awards sitting here in Mumbai, as his blockbuster film 'Dabangg' won the highest accolades at the prestigious event. The film came out as a major winner as the producers Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora Khan lifted the coveted 'Best Film' award with pride.

The voice of 'Munni', singer Mamta Sharma, won the award for 'Best Playback Singer' in the female category, whereas the melody masters Lalit Pandit and Sajid-Wajid, the music composers of 'Dabangg', won the 'Best Music' award. Pakistani artist Rahat Fateh Ali Khan too scored golden points for his 'Tere Mast Mast Do Nain' track in 'Dabangg' as he won the prestigious IIFA award in the 'Best Male Singer' category. Actor Sonu Sood, the baddie in the action thriller, won the 'Best Performance in a Negative Role' award and the kohl-eyed Sonakshi Sinha, as expected, bagged the 'Best Female Debut' award. Director Abhinav Kashyap might have lost the Best Director award to Karan Johar but covered up the loss as he clinched the 'Best Screenplay' award along with Dilip Shukla.

With so many awards to its credit, like the box-office, 'Dabangg' proved to be a giant at the IIFA as well.
