Damon Albarn: I dont want to party all the time

23rd October 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Damon Albarn believes he is too old to drink every night as it may affect his creative impulses.

The 42-year-old singer rose to fame as the lead singer of British group Blur and has also enjoyed success as singer-songwriter for animated band Gorillaz.

Damon created the band in 1998 along with cartoonist Jamie Hewlett to critical acclaim. Whilst the singer pens the lyrics for the group Jamie creates an animated quartet on screen consisting of 2D who sings and plays keyboard, Murdoc Niccals on bass, Noodle on guitar and Russel Hobbs on drums.

Following the release of their third studio album, Plastic Beach, Damon has revealed that he is more concerned with realising his musical potential than fulfilling the pop star sex, drugs and rock and roll stereotype.

The repetition of touring Ive always found a bit difficult. And, yknow, Im a 40-plus dad now! Im not interested in drinking every night, I just cant do that anymore, he told Q. It sounds really boring, I know, but all I want to do is just be creative, to keep playing around with the boundaries of what is acceptable. And thats what Gorillaz are doing right now. Whats life if you cant take risks? (C) Cover Media
