Dave Grohl: Drummers should have personality

8th July 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Dave Grohl is angry that drummers nowadays aren't allowed to reflect their "personalities".

The 42-year-old American rocker is considered by many to be one of the most talented musicians in the industry, having first shot to fame on drums with grunge band Nirvana and going on to front Foo Fighters as lead singer and guitarist.

Dave was famed for his wild drumming style with Nirvana, and is nostalgic about the days when music production was less polished.

"I learnt to play the drums by listening to records. I had favourite drummers because of their inconsistencies," he is quoted as saying in British newspaper The Sun.

"Modern production has robbed drummers of personalities and it really p**ses me off."

Foo Fighters released their seventh studio album Wasting Light back in April, and famously recorded it in less-than-conventional methods. The entire record was made in Dave's garage, which he says saved it from modern studio ruin.

"All that sh*t ruins music these days," he said of current studio techniques.

"Drum machines work for pop artists but when it comes to rock 'n' roll - don't f**k with the human element." (C) Cover Media
