David Arquette celebrates Bar Mitzvah

11th June 2012

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - David Arquette has celebrated his Bar Mitzvah while travelling in Israel.

The actor is said to have visited Jerusalem for a travel show and attended the Jewish coming-of-age ritual of a local boy when someone suggested he should have his own religious ceremony.

The traditional age for the religious procedure usually takes place at the age of 13 for boys, but the 41-year-old didn't seem to mind and agreed to take part.

"According to VosIzNeias.com, David - whose mother is Jewish - liked the idea ... so he strapped on a kippah and tefillin (prayer garb) and made it happen right in front of the Western Wall," TMZ writes. "David was later presented with a Bar Mitzvah certificate... but as everyone knows, the occasion doesn't become official until someone puts him in a chair and hoists him around the room."

After the ceremony, the Scream star took to Twitter to share the news with his fans.

"I had my Bar Mitzvah today at the wall. Finally I'm a man," he wrote.

He had previously spoken about his regrets of not celebrating the religious milestone at a younger age.

"I wanted a bar mitzvah but didn't have one as a kid... I still may get one - maybe for my 40th birthday," he told the Jewish Journal in 2010. (C) Cover Media
