Debbie Harry: Surgery is part of celebrity

8th July 2011

(Cover) - EN Star Style - Debbie Harry says cosmetic surgery is "part and parcel" of showbusiness.

The 66-year-old singer is best known for being the front woman of iconic rock group Blondie.

The American star, who first achieved success in the 70s with hits such as The Tide Is High and Heart of Glass, is famed for her peroxide blonde hair and quirky dress sense, and is widely considered a style icon.

Debbie has had cosmetic surgery in the past and admits that she is open to having more as she ages.

The songstress says enhancing your looks is an integral part of remaining relevant in the modern showbiz world.

"No," she admitted, when asked if plastic surgery was a big step. "I might be ready for some more soon. It's part and parcel of modern living and being in showbusiness. The way to do it is to have something done and not look like you've had it done, don't demand too much."

Debbie remains modest about her status as an icon. She admits that people being obsessed with the way she looks is "absurd".

"During the first seven years of Blondie, that never came through to me," she explained in an interview with British newspaper The Daily Mirror. "I knew I was the face of the band and my looks were a big factor, but when we got back together after a long period away and people were calling me iconic, it shocked me. I always thought it was an absurd thing." (C) Cover Media
