After gaining raving reviews for her performance in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali period drama, Deepika has a whole new role to play apart from acting and it is spending big bucks behind a movie she believes in.
'Padmaavat' actress Deepika Padukone is roped in to play the role of Laxmi Agarwal who was an acid attack survivor. Padukone has stepped into a whole new role of a producer as well. The film is based on the real-life of Laxmi Agarwal was attacked at the age of 15 and she had to undergo several surgeries. Later, she takes up the job of helping acid attack survivors and promoted campaigns to stop acid attacks.
Laxmi Agarwal was also felicitated with the US State Department’s International Women of Courage Award in 2014 by the former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama. Talking about the film, the 32-year-old spoke to a leading daily, "When I heard this story, I was deeply moved as it’s not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory. It made such an impact on me, that personally and creatively, I needed to go beyond and so the decision to turn producer."
An exciting project for Deepika as well as her stakes are on this Meghna Gulzar directorial.
