(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Tangleds hero is cocky, because the directors were bored of Disney leading men being uncool.

Nathan Greno and Byron Howard helmed new Disney film Tangled together. The animated feature tells the classic story of a young girl named Rapunzel who finds herself trapped in a tower by the evil Mother Gothel.

Rapunzel only escapes through the help of honourable thief Flynn Ryder who stumbles on the princess by chance. Nathan revealed he and Byron remain delighted with their decision to make the hero slightly pompous and more hard edged than previous Disney film characters.

When we were trying to figure out who Flynn Ryder was in this movie we looked at a bunch of different sources. We were just trying to think of the characters we like. When you look back at some of the past Disney princes a lot of them are soft - theyre not anyone that we think are that cool. We like cocky, arrogant characters. There were people in our building who were a little worried because they were hearing these rumours, Well, its not a prince its a thief. Hes kind of a ladies man, and hes very arrogant. They were like, What is going on in that story room? The trick is if you have this cocky character you have to hit him over the head with a frying pan a dozen times and he needs to pay for being this way, he told Cover Media.
