Dr. Dre: My wife wouldnt let me quit music

13th January 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Dr. Dres wife persuaded him not to quit the music industry, he has revealed.

The hip hop producer-and-artist has had a long journey to get to the point of releasing his next album Detox, which was first announced in 2002.

During that time Dre has experienced highs and lows, including the death of his 20-year-old son Andre Young Jr. in 2008 from an overdose of heroin and morphine.

The 45-year-old admits he considered giving up through disillusion with the music industry, but his wife Nicole Threatt persuaded him to carry on.

Ive been through that thing several times where Im like You know what? I quit. Im not doing this. Everything is starting to sound the same. But like I said I have good people around. I have people that push, like, No no. Lets do this. Em [Eminem] for example. My wife. All these people are like Nah, nah, cmon. You could do it. You could do it, Dre told XXL magazine.

The rapper said he found the motivation to complete Detox by rediscovering his love of experimentation.

By allowing freedom to come into the recording studio, Dre says magic can happen in records.

I experiment, he said. Every now and then, something corny would pop out, just from experimenting. Thats going to happen if youre creating. (C) Cover Media
