Elton John names his favourite song

29th January 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Sir Elton John says his favourite tune is always changing but he never gets bored with singing Your Song.

The megastar has a varied and extensive back catalogue that spans almost 50 years and will place him in the list of music legends.

But he admits the 1970 single, which reached number seven in the UK and charts a young lovers feelings, will remain in his thoughts when the others lose their power.

It [my favourite] changes. But Your Song is always present because I never get fed up with singing that song, Elton told Famecrawler.

The distinctive tune, which was recently covered by English star Ellie Goulding, was penned by Eltons long-time collaborator Bernie Taupin. The singer thinks its astonishing his colleague created the piece at such a young age. Bernie wrote that song when he was 17 years of age, the 63-year-old explained. That is not a 17-year old song. A 17-year-old English boy writing that song and it has the most beautiful words in it. I will never get tired of singing it.

On top of the hit, Elton says he enjoys a number of his other efforts, although there is one that conjures mixed feelings. In 1997 he performed a special version of a song to mark the death of his close friend, Diana, The Princess of Wales, who was killed in a car accident.

Tiny Dancer I love. If Im being truthful, I think the song I sang most of all would be Your Song, Elton said. Candle in the Wind I didnt sing for a while after Dianas death because it was too painful.

Yet he always returns to arguably his most well-known ditty sometimes because audiences assume hes not bettered it. But to honest, it would be Your Song. But that was my first hit, and you might think, Well he hasnt written anything since, has he?! (C) Cover Media
