Giuliana Rancic admits that she has "a ways to go" in terms of getting back to prime health.
The 36-year-old television host underwent a double mastectomy on December 13.
Giuliana is happy with how she is recuperating from the procedure thus far.
"I feel great," Giuliana told Matt Lauer in a joint interview with her husband Bill on American talk programme the Today show Friday.
"I've got to be honest. I feel great considering it has only been about two-and-a-half weeks. But I still have a ways to go as far as the recovery."
Bill and Giuliana attempted to stay positive throughout the ordeal. Before the surgery, Giuliana even shared a laugh with hospital personnel.
"[Medical staffers had] given [Giuliana] something to relax her. So she was cracking jokes as they were wheeling her away," Bill recalled. "I've never seen anything like it. She was in pretty good spirits."
Although she remained optimistic throughout, Giuliana never downplayed the importance of the procedure. She recognises the gravity of the situation.
"It was definitely hard. I knew this was going to be a tough surgery. I in no way want to minimise it," she said. "Yes, I'm two and a half weeks out, [but] my gosh -- up until a week and a half ago, it was hell. It was horrible."
Subsequent to the operation, Giuliana experienced both post-surgical pain and illness induced by the painkiller pills she ingested.
Despite the pain, Giuliana's determination to get well was palpable.
"We just did it slowly. She was not happy with me, but we did it," Bill explained.
"As soon as she got up and started taking her first couple of steps, she was walking around the hallways of the hospital."
Giuliana was diagnosed with breast cancer in October and after a lumpectomy was unsuccessful she decided to go for the surgery to drastically reduce the chance of the disease ever coming back.
Giuliana's cancer was caught early because her fertility doctor advised her to undergo a mammogram before going for her third round of IVF treatment in a bid to have a baby.
