The 'Sur' guy; that is how many remember him today. But Lucky Ali's career is much more than just one movie.

Born in an affluent family, with his father being actor Mehmood and aunts like Meena Kumari and Minoo Mumtaz, Lucky Ali's fate was written right from his birth. Lucky Ali was born as the secong child among the eight children of comedian and actor Mehmood on 19th September, 1958. At the age of 13, he was gifted a guitar and this was his big start. He learned to play it and his first composition was a three-chord lament called "Nobody loves Me". But the child's interests soon moved on from music to horses, then to acting and direction, further on to roughnecking on the rig Gettysburg now Badrinath owned by Great Offshore Limited, to washing carpets but finally returned to music.

Lucky Ali debuted with the Indian pop album 'Sunoh' and his first wife Meaghan Jane McCleary was seen in its music video. This album went on to win many top awards including the Best Pop Male Vocalist at the 1996 Screen Awards and the Channel V Viewers Choice Award in 1997. It stayed on the MTV Asia Charts for 60 weeks. He is also known for contributing the song "Anjaani Raahon Mein" to the album "Meri Jaan Hindustan" which commemorated 50 years of Indian independence in the year 1997.

Lucky Ali ventured in the playback area, with the song "Nasha Nasha" from the film 'Dushman Duniya Ka' which starred his brother Manzoor Ali. The movie was written and directed by Mehmood himself and it was the story inspired from Lucky Ali's tryst with Marijuana. His next stint with playback was for Hrithik Roshan's debut movie 'Kaho Na Pyaar Hai'.

Lucky Ali hasn't restricted himself to singing, but has also acted in movies like 'Trikaal', 'Kaante' and 'Sur'. He has won many accolades and much appreciation for his intense performance in 'Sur'.
