Hema Malini first directed a film in the year 1992 when she made ‘Dil Aashna Hai’ starring Shah Rukh Khan in lead role. However after that she did not direct any other films for reasons unknown and kept herself busy with her dance shows.

However after 19 years long hiatus, Hema decided to call the shots for her daughter Esha Deol’s comeback film ‘Tell Me O Kkhuda’. Directing a film after almost two decades have made Hema notice the major changes that have taken place in the process of filmmaking. She recently stated that according to her direction has undergone a dramatic change. She feels that the technological advancement has taken film direction to a newer level and hence she felt it was necessary to make full use of it in the right way. She also noted that even if something goes wrong while shooting it gets edited in post production which has made the whole production thing a costly affair whereas earlier the filmamkers believed in perfecting the shot on the ground itself. However she has no qualms in accepting the new trends.

Her film ‘Tell Me O Kkhuda’ starring Esha Deol, Arjan Bajwa, Dharmendra, Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna releases on 28th October 2011.
