Ace music composer Illayaraja’s wife Jeeva died of heart attack in Chennai on Monday. Known to be a pillar of strength to the music maestro for the past three decades, Jeeva was 57 and is survived by husband, two sons and a daughter.

Circles close to the Rajas say that Jeeva complained of chest pain around 9 pm Monday, following which she was rushed to a corporate hospital in the city. Despite emergency treatment, she breathed her last at the hospital.

Top personalities of Tamil and other film industries have expressed shock over the sudden death of Jeeva and have been already rushing to Illayaraja’s house on Murugesan Street at T Nagar, where the body has been kept.

Illayaraja, who was in Hyderabad to compose music for a Telugu movie when his wife passed away, took a flight and reached Chennai in the wee hours of Tuesday. All three children of the couple (Karthik Raja, Yuvan Shankar Raja and Bhavadharini) are established names in film industry.
