(Cover) - EN Showbiz - James Van Der Beek made two mix tapes for his wife to listen to as she gave birth, one with alternative music and one featuring R&B classics.

The 33-year-old American actor is known for his role as Dawson Leery in the 90s teen drama Dawson's Creek, and become a father for the first time last September when his wife Kimberly gave birth to their daughter Olivia.

James tried his best to support his wife during childbirth, and has opened up about his efforts to ensure she felt relaxed.

I made two mixes of music. One with mellow, alternative music James Morrison, Cat Power and an R&B mix, because we had no idea what kind of mood shed be in, he said.

When it came to the big moment, Kimberly felt like listening to some smooth tunes, so the urban party mix was ignored. James laughed that although he adores hip-hop artists such as Kanye West, he and his wife didnt feel club music was appropriate at the time.

We ended up going with the mellow mix. As much as we love Kanye, I guess he wasnt meant to be serenading our little girl as she made her grand entrance, he mused. (C) Cover Media
