Jane Lynch inspired by Simon Cowell

19th January 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Jane Lynch took inspiration from Simon Cowell for her Glee character Sue Sylvester.

Sue is the acid-tongued cheerleading coach in the hit US series, which is about a group of kids who enjoy singing in a school choir. Janes character has been one of the shows biggest success, with fans loving her witty put-downs and scathing comments. The part has also made a huge star of Sue, who took home the best supporting TV actress Golden Globe Award at Sundays ceremony.

Jane has now revealed she thinks Sue and TV judge Simon have a great deal in common. Simon has judged American Idol and The X Factor, and is renowned for being open and honest with singers he thinks arent up to scratch.

I think Sue Sylvester has British in her. I think the US look at the British as a race that tells it how it is. And if ever there was a guy who tells it like it is, then it's Simon Cowell. You could definitely look at Sue and say there's a lot of Simon in her, she told British newspaper The Sun. He's a great inspiration for the character of Sue - there is a lot that I can take from him and put into her. Just like him, she says what she wants because she can - there is nobody there to tell either of them to stop.

Simon is set to take his British programme The X Factor to America this year, and speculation is rife over who will judge it. Jane insists the rumours can now end, as she has the perfect solution.

People have asked me, 'What about having Sue on The X Factor? How would she do?' I think she'd be fantastic - and there would be a few contestants reduced to tears, she laughed.

It can never happen, though. Simon and Sue on the same judging panel will never work in a million years - there's only room for one ego on the show! (C) Cover Media
