(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Jeff Bridges has revealed he felt uneasy rehashing John Waynes role for his new film True Grit.
The respected actor has been receiving praise for his role in the Coen brothers western revenge movie, starring alongside Matt Damon and young newcomer Hailee Steinfeld. The movie is a remake of the 1969 film of the same name starring John Wayne, which was inspired by a novel written by Charles Portis in 1968.
Jeff reveals he was initially worried about reviving a role made famous by an American legend, but felt the story needed to be told in a new way.
John Wayne is certainly an icon. I was a little concerned about that when the Coen brothers invited me to come on board, as I thought it was a curious choice for them. Why did they want to make True Grit when there was a film already made? he told British newspaper the Guardian.
They said, Were not approaching it that way, we are making a film of the book by Charles Portis as if there wasnt another film made. We are going to do a complete fresh retelling of the story, and that was relief for me.
Jeffs collaboration with the Coen brothers comes 13 years after their classic alliance on The Big Lebowski. Jeff played The Dude in the cult hit, and it has become one of his most memorable roles to date. The 61-year-old confirms that although a decade has since past, the two brothers have hardly changed.
Joel cut his ponytail thats about it, confirmed Jeff. (C) Cover Media
