John C. Reilly: Tomei is a real joy

6th September 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - John C. Reilly says playing Marisa Tomei’s love interest in their new movie was “pretty easy” because everybody loves her “instantly.”

The 45-year old actor plays a divorcee who meets the woman of his dreams, portrayed by Marisa, also 45, in the romantic comedy Cyrus.

John found playing a man besotted with Marisa’s character easy because he formed a bond with the actress the moment he met her.

“You know it's going to be pretty easy to pretend to love this woman because, you know, you do, instantly,” he gushed in an interview with Movies.ie.

John says Marisa, who is best known for her roles in movies such as What Women Want, The Wrestler, and Anger Management, was a huge inspiration to him in the making of Cyrus.

“What a great actress. Marisa just knows how to deliver, and it spurs you on,” he added. “A real joy; acting is really all about the other person, in many situations.”

John also had praise for another of his previous co-stars, the comedy actor Will Ferrell, who has appeared opposite John in movies such as Step Brothers and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

John attributes his success in the realm of comedy to his collaborations with Will, saying he can never resist the opportunity to work alongside the funnyman.

“The guy just makes me laugh, and somehow, I manage to make him laugh too. It's pretty irresistible, getting to make a movie with that guy,” he beamed.

The actor admits he often doesn’t even feel like he’s working when he makes movies with Will, because they have so much fun on set. He also revealed they often worry they have pushed the boundaries too far, and fear they may offend audiences.

“It's like we're mitching off from making real movies, you know what I mean? It's a case of, can we really say this? Should we take it this far?” he confessed. (C) Cover Media
