John Mayer will take to stage

19th September 2012

John Mayer is set to return to the stage after a surgery-induced hiatus from performing.

The singer went under the knife last month to remove a granuloma, a growth on his tonsils, from his vocal cords.

John's gearing up to join the Zac Brown Band on the Southern Ground Festival stage in Nashville this Friday, but his ongoing recovery will prevent him from crooning.

"John will be performing on guitar only," his publicist Fran DeFeo revealed to USA Today.

This is the second operation the singer-songwriter has undergone to deal with the granuloma.

This time around, he was forced to cancel his summer tour for his current album Born and Raised.

It's unclear how long John will have to refrain from singing.

"He is still recovering from the recent procedure on his vocal cords and will be on vocal rest for awhile," Fran said.

The Gravity singer also had surgery in October 2011.

The malignancy recurred a few months later and the musician was forced to cancel his 21-date Spring 2012 tour across America.
