(Cover) - EN Movies - Johnny Depp loves appearing in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies as it allows him to dress in womens undergarments.

The American star is famously pirate Captain Jack Sparrow in the franchise, the latest instalment of which is called On Stranger Tides.

Johnny enjoys playing the swashbuckling hero as it gives him a chance to really let loose, adding there is another secret reason hes fond of the loveable rogue.

It also gives me the opportunity to wear womens undergarments beneath the costume which you dont get every day, so you have to take the chance and grab it, he joked to Cover Media.

Johnny is proud of On Stranger Tides and thinks it will be a big hit with fans. He is continually amazed at how well the franchise has done around the world. The latest movie is the fourth in the series, with the first, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, released in 2003.

Johnnys character is known for being a little naughty and has a wicked sense of humour, something he loves playing up.

Its funny how this thing has been accepted, how the characters have been accepted. You think back, when we first started out Pirates one was very simple, just like any other character, we just grabbed bits and pieces and out comes this weird little stew. None of us has done anything really different other than create these characters and then whatever happened, happened, he mused.

And its just so much fun to get away with things youre not normally allowed to get away with, to be totally irreverent, to play as absurd as you like. Its a very special opportunity.
