Kangna does her first 'Mujra'

4th March 2013

Here to reinvent a genre of dance that has been long forgotten, actress Kangna Ranaut plays a nautch girl in 'Rajjo'. She recently shot for the film's highlight song, her first ever classical mujra number titled 'Kaleja Hai Hajir... Khanjar Kahan Hai'.

Having trained in Kathak for the last 3 years at Nateshwar Nritya Kala Mandir under the guidance of Rajendra Chaturvedi, Kangna shot for the song composed by Uttam Singh and choreographed by Ganesh Acharya like a pro.

Says Ganesh Acharya, "Kangna has always been known as a powerhouse performer but now you will see her with a new perspective. I was thrilled to see her dedication and the end result. It will be the best performance of Kangna's life".

Clarifying that the song cannot be termed as an item number, says Kangna, "Item numbers are not my cup of tea and mujra songs in Rajjo can't be called item numbers. They are highly authentic and a tribute to Gopi Krishna and I enjoyed every bit of dancing that I am getting to do in this film."

All praise for Kangna, says director Vishwas Patil, "For Rajjo's role, I was looking for a brilliant actress who has been trained in Kathak and Kangna fit into this role perfectly. I was searching for a powerhouse performer with a regal appeal on the lines of the iconic Vyjayanthimala, Waheeda Rehman and Madhubala and without any complaints Kangna fulfilled all my expectations."

Produced by Four Pillars Entertainment, Vishwas Patil's 'Rajjo', also stars Prakash Raj, Mahesh Manjrekar and newcomer Paras Arora. It is scheduled to release this year.
