Katie Holmes has emerged from her New York apartment for the first time today since announcing she is splitting from Tom Cruise.

The 33-year-old shocked the actor when she filed for divorce last Thursday reportedly catching him by complete surprise.

But the brunette beauty, who had been looking like a shadow of her former self of late, looked decidedly radiant on her outing in Manhattan.

With her hair pulled into a pony tail and wearing a simple blue outfit, the former Dawson's Creek actress looked in good spirits and even managed a smile.

Katie is gearing up for a fight to get sole legal custody of her six-year-old daughter Suri who she is reportedly desperate to limit ties with Tom's Scientology religion.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Katie will keep her previously scheduled appearance on Project Runway: All Stars as a guest judge today.

The show is filmed at Parsons The New School of Design in the Big Apple and is a spin off from the original Project Runway show hosted by Heidi Klum who is going through her own split from Seal.

It has also been reported that Katie has fired her old security team and hired new bodyguards who are not associated with Tom.
