(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Katy Perry will make her first public appearance since splitting from husband Russell Brand at next week's People's Choice Awards.

The Teenage Dream singer spent the holidays in Hawaii while Russell was in his native England, and she will once again brave the limelight but this time as a single woman.

She is scheduled to appear at the awards show in Los Angeles on January 11 and is expected to perform in Jakarta and Manila later this month.

Katy, 27, and Russell have both now been spotted without their wedding rings and the Arthur star has been pictured looking sad in London.

The split came as a surprise to some of their friends with one insider telling People magazine that they were shocked by the divorce filing.

"They were always laughing," the source told the publication. "They were very affectionate, always holding hands. They seemed like they were really in love."

Meanwhile, a source told Us Weekly that Katy "doesn't want the marriage to end and is beside herself. She's inconsolable".

"The plan was for Katy and Russell to have the holidays apart, then see if they wanted to go through with a separation," the source said.

But Brand, 36, filed for divorce after just 14 months of marriage saying that he would "always adore" Katy and that they will "remain friends". (C) Cover Media
