Kelly Rowland: I'm always working

19th November 2011

Kelly Rowland doesn't "switch off" because she's always thinking of ways to improve as an artist.

The American songstress found international fame as a member of Destiny's Child alongside Beyonc Knowles and Michelle Williams.

She has since launched a successful solo career.

Kelly believes that her longevity in the music business stems from her work ethic.

"I don't really switch off. I'm always thinking of songs or ideas. I'm going to take guitar lessons. I watched a documentary on producer Berry Gordy and it showed that, in between albums, his acts The Jackson Five, Stevie Wonder wouldn't be chilling; they would be learning an instrument, brushing up on being a true artist," she revealed in an interview with Stylist magazine.

Kelly is well adjusted to life as a global pop star. The 30-year-old says her down-to-earth surroundings have kept her feet firmly on the ground.

"Great friends and great surroundings. Growing up with my mom, Doris, Bey Beyonc, and Bey's mother, Tina. If I came home with a big head, they'd tell me to get out the house which has happened by the way," she explained. "That's what is so beautiful about the friendship of Destiny's Child; honesty. To this day, I could wake up one morning and there's this long text message from Bey or Michelle."
