(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kristen Stewart was happy to film a topless scene for her new movie, insisting she loves "scaring" herself.

The star attended the Cannes Film Festival today to promote On the Road, based on Jack Kerouac's classic novel. In one scene, Kristen who plays a sexually adventurous wife appears topless as she sits in a car between her co-stars Sam Riley and Garrett Hedlund.

The 22-year-old actress wasn't afraid to strip off for the role.

"I love pushing, I love scaring myself and I think to watch genuine experience on screen is so much more interesting. I wanted to do it," she said at the press conference. "The reason I wanted to do the job was because you read something and you're provoked on some level, and then it's just taking that further and being able to live it; and I always want to get as close to the experience as I possibly can.

"As long as you're always really honest there's never really anything to be ashamed of."

Kristen went on to reveal that she has been involved in the project since she was 16. The star met with director Walter Salles when she was still a teenager, so feels a close connection to the character of Luanne Marylou' Henderson.

"I was almost the same age Luanne was at the time, but I was a much younger 16, so I'm glad I had a chance to age before we started shooting," she said.

The brunette also recalled attending a "beatnik boot camp" with the rest of the cast including Kirsten Dunst - in Montreal in 2010.

Kristen says the experience was something she will never forget.

"I'm usually self-conscious about running around town with my face hanging out," she explained. "But I got to live more in those four weeks than I ever usually do in my life." (C) Cover Media
