Lemmy not mellowing with age

9th January 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Lemmy admits money was the sole reason behind him allowing one of his tracks to be used on an advert.

The Motrhead singer is adored around the world for his no-nonsense attitude and rock and roll approach to making a living in the mainstream music industry.

But a version of the bands most famous hit - Ace of Spades - fronts the recent commercial created by Kronenbourg beer.

Lemmy argues that this decision was not made because he has mellowed, instead claiming the lure of cash swayed him.

Its a sign that we got paid a lot of money by a beer company. They asked us to do it and I said yes, the 65-year-old told Q magazine. How much? None of your business.

The rocker said he doesnt need to lighten up anyway as his job is essentially a hobby. Lemmy suggests he isnt a different character away from the limelight.

People expect me to be mellow because they think that being in Motrhead must be an effort, but its not, he explained. This is the music that I love and I live by it. I dont go home and secretly stick on some opera. I like noise.

And the star revealed a track from Motrheads 1980 Ace of Spades album was conceived in the bathroom. He struggled to find a suitable area to develop his thoughts and stuck with this unusual one. I wrote (We Are) The Road Crew in a studio toilet in Rickmansworth. It was the only quiet place in the building, Lemmy added. I had an idea and I needed somewhere to work it through. That is the only song I can remember writing in the toilet. (C) Cover Media
