(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Lisa Marie Presley says she always wanted to save her ex-husband Michael Jackson, and worries she could have done more to help him.

Lisa and Michael married in 1994, but the union lasted less than two years. They remained friends after the split, and Lisa was left devastated when the singer died in June 2009. She released a statement via her MySpace blog following his passing, in which she admitted she wished shed done more to help him.

The star has now reiterated the claims in an interview with US talk show host Oprah Winfrey. I know that it's naive to think that I could have [saved him] but I wanted to, she said. Had I made a call, had I stopped being so shut off from him, had I just said, 'How are you?' I really regret that I didn't.

Despite these feelings, the 42-year-old admits she wonders whether Michael was destined to die young. He was 50 when he passed, and his official cause of death was acute Propofol intoxication by intravenous injection of another. Michaels personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray has been charged with his involuntary manslaughter, which he denies.

Following the singing superstars death, much was made of Michaels use of prescription medication. Propofol is a powerful anaesthetic usually used to put surgery patients to sleep, but he apparently used it to help his insomnia.

I think that was a train headed in a certain direction that I don't know if anyone could have stopped and I've had to really get my head around that in order to stop the pain, Lisa admitted. (C) Cover Media
