Govinda starrer 'Rangeela Raja' which was set to release on November 16 has been in the midst of a legal battle with CBFC, as the presenter of the film Pahlaj Nihalani earlier appealed to the Vacation Bench of the Bombay High Court to overrule the Censor Board's decision but was put on hold. Finally, the bench heard the matter but didn't draw upon any conclusion.

In a press conference, prior Govinda expressed his anger and said his previous release Fryday didn't get much screen and the board is conspiring his films specifically with unnecessary cuts.

Speaking about the matter, Presenter Pahlaj Nihalani said in a statement, "Following the vacation court's directive, I've applied to the FCAT (Film Certification Appellate Tribunal) on Thursday. With the regular courts resuming on Monday after the Diwali holidays, we informed the presiding judge about it. At the same time, we also hope the case, which I have already filed, will be heard today. I won't be leaving any option in fighting against this injustice being meted out to me and my film." 

When the bench asked Nihalani that why he didn't approach the revising committee or tribunal for the matter, the director replied that Censor Board Chief, Prasoon Joshi was not in India. However, the opposition contested this and said that Joshi was very much in India. 

'Rangeela Raja' was approved with an 'A' rating but Nihalani didn't agree and asked for a U/A rating. The board suggested editing 20 scenes for the U/A certification. Hence the ex CBFC chief opted for a legal route.
