Saadat Hasan Manto lived anything but a conventional life and hence it comes as no surprise that the makers of 'Manto' too are constantly innovating when it comes to introducing the film to Indian audiences.
The first look of the highly anticipated 'Manto' headlined by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, was first launched at the Cannes Film Festival 2017. A proud moment for Indian cinema, the film will now receive a grand welcome at the festival as Manto directed by Nandita Das, made its world's premiere at the Festival de Cannes 2018.
Indian audiences won't have to wait much longer as the teaser of the film was launched at a popular suburban multiplex. However, this one was nothing close to a traditional teaser launch but one which allowed the team of the film in Cannes to interact with the audiences in India.
The makers had a special surprise for the audience as filmmaker Nandita Das, actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Tahir Raj Bhasin & Rasika Dugal along with producers Namrata Goyal and Ajit Andhare made their presence felt via live video screening from the French Riviera.
Narrating an interesting and intriguing time in writer, playwright and author Saadat Hasan Manto's life, the film has been chosen in the "Un Certain Regard" category, a section presenting 20 "original and different" works told in a nontraditional format, which seeks international recognition.
Known for his fearless opinions, Saadat Hasan Manto was known to write about the atrocious truths that no one dared to talk about and was best known for his stories about the partition of the subcontinent immediately following independence.
Redefining the mainstream 'hero' and content led cinema – Nawazuddin Siddiqui brings alive the various shades of Manto with acclaimed actress Rasika Dugal essaying the character of his wife; Safia. The film also features an ensemble star cast of Rishi Kapoor, Divya Dutta, Ranvir Shorey, Paresh Rawal, Swanand Kirkire.
