(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Mark Ronson says British musicians have more of a soul diet than their American counterparts.
The British music producer has worked with artists including Amy Winehouse and Robbie Williams and is widely respected as a DJ.
The 35-year-old believes British musicians are more influenced by soul and reggae artists due to their childhoods, but that doesnt make them more soulful than their American counterparts.
I dont think English artists have more soul than American artists. The English version is an interpretation [with] a lot of different elements, not strictly R&B, he said in an interview with Vibe magazine. Everyone in the UK grows up with a little more soul music or reggae in their diet. Theres this weird English love affair with classic soul music that keeps perpetuating itself.
Mark is not impressed with the current British pop scene. He is disappointed with the lack of global appeal in the charts today, however he cites emerging talent Jessie J as breaking that mould.
Im not a huge fan of the pop charts in England at this moment, he admitted. Jessie J is exciting because she is the UK artist that had broken into the US from an international standpoint. (C) Cover Media
