(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Mia Wasikowska hoped audiences would "connect" with her version of Jane Eyre.
The Australian actress portrays the title character in the Cary Fukunaga adaptation of the popular Charlotte Bront romantic novel.
Mia was originally daunted by the prospect of playing such an iconic character.
"People have a strong idea of who she is. You hope that they will connect with your version," she told Total Film.
Mia says Bront's legendary character really appealed to her. The star sees some aspects of herself in Jane.
"Jane has such an originality of thought and such a strong sense of self. She's not victimised by the harsh things she's faced, which takes incredible strength of character. That's what attracted me to her," she explained.
"What girls continue to love about her is the fact that she doesn't compromise herself for anybody. I would like to think I try and do that as well." (C) Cover Media
