(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Michael Jackson's fitness trainer claims he showed "no signs of physical distress" while exercising in the run up to his death.

The pop icon died of acute Propofol intoxication on June 25 2009 and his personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray has been charged with his involuntary manslaughter. Murray is on trial in Los Angeles at the moment and has denied the allegations.

Court proceedings started yesterday and the prosecution claimed Jackson was increasingly frail in the weeks before his death. He was rehearsing for his This Is It shows when he passed away and choreographer Kenny Ortega gave evidence yesterday. It was claimed Jackson was too ill to dance, with Ortega revealing he felt the star needed psychological evaluation.

However, TMZ has spoken to the King of Pop's fitness trainer Lou Ferrigno, who gave another version of events.

"[He tells us] MJ showed no signs of physical distress during workouts, as recently as two weeks before the singer died," reports the site.

"Lou says two weeks before Jackson died, he went to MJ's home and trained him for an hour. Michael did cardio on the treadmill, used the exercise ball, worked with some light weights, completed a bunch of core exercises, and did a lot of stretching.

"Lou says Michael's energy level was very good, but he did complain that he was upset because he was having trouble sleeping."

The two men were working together several times a week to get Jackson prepared for his concerts. Ferrigno admits the singer seemed "stressed" but insists he was otherwise healthy.

The exercise guru saw Jackson two weeks before he died and felt the star knew something bad was going to happen. The singer said, "Take care of yourself," as Ferrigno left, and when he pointed out they'd be seeing each other soon, Jackson merely repeated the phrase.

The prosecution are attempting to show Murray acted with gross negligence and incompetence by giving Jackson Propofol, which is usually used in hospital to put surgery patients to sleep.

A recording of Jackson taken on May 10 2009 was played in court yesterday, in which he slurred his words and sounded confused. It was taken from Murray's phone, and the prosecution claim it shows the doctor knew how Jackson was being affected by Propofol.

Murray's defence team claim Jackson self-administered the drug, as he was suffering from insomnia. They allege he was angry that Murray wouldn't inject him with the anaesthetic so did it himself, creating a "perfect storm in his body that killed him instantly" as he'd already taken other medication.

The trial is due to last between five and six weeks. (C) Cover Media
