(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Minka Kelly has split from Derek Jeter.

The American actress began dating the New York Yankees baseball player in May 2008. They were famously private about their romance, although there was speculation that they were planning to tie the knot.

It's now been confirmed the pair have ended their romance, although no further details have been given.

"The split was amicable," a source told Just Jared. "But they remain friends. They still really care for each other."

Representatives for the pair admitted they are no longer together but would not be drawn on the details.

The romance seemed to be on track just a few weeks ago when Minka was seen with Derek's family in a special suite at one of his baseball matches.

Earlier this month a documentary about Derek aired on HBO. Minka was featured and admitted she knew nothing about baseball before dating the sportsman.

"I didn't know the difference between a run and a homerun," she said. "I thought if you made a connection with the ball, that was an automatic hit."

Derek, 37, joked: "She's lying. She had a poster of me on her wall when she was in high school."

Minka, 31, has been cast in the Charlie's Angels TV reboot which is being produced by Drew Barrymore. (C) Cover Media
